It may stop snowing any day now... Hopefully you have bookmarked our new portal: www.bergstranda.com! Welcome to Bergstranda Gazette! We have had to move a lot of files around to keep this site going lately. All the english-language stuff is not back yet, but were working on it. The good news is that the mp3-section is back in working order. To be accurate, you have reached here - just in time, and the world spins at an fairly adequate speed. Step right in! Feel like home! In this place we set the standards a little lower,
just to make it easier. So while we whistle absolutely false at an unknown melody from the late eighties, what have we got here now...

Predator-debate
A never ending story in these parts of the world. This summer they were hunting bears all over the county again. The stock of lynx are being heavily taxed. In the nineteenth century bears and wolves were a nuisance to the farmers all the way from the mountains down to the fjord. It hasn't been like that for ages now, and maybe we have become just a little spoiled. The predators belong in our fauna, and it is about time that the sharing of land goes a little more on their terms. We are mammals too, and ought to treat our fellow species with a little more respect. We should herd our sheep, and let our predators live!

Where to build highways?
Highways should be built on the outside. Outside town-centers, housing environments and children's playgrounds. Its really quite easy, but still the politicians in the local council in Steinkjer just don't get it. They want to build the new part of the European highway number six (E6) straight trough the center of the town. As time has gone by they have put so much prestige into this, that they seem to be incapable of listening to reason. Here at Bergstranda the coastal highway, Rv17, goes right past the house. There is a lot less traffic on Rv17 than on E6, but still, this road near the house is the one thing that damages the environment the most right here.

Bergstranda
The center of this world (sub una specie) is at 64°06'46'' north latitude and 11°21'10'' east longitude. At the most northerly dash of the waves of the Trondheims-fjord, lies the autonomy kingdom of Bergstranda, a free-state in the state. After Beitstad was given up as a administrative county somewhere back in the sixties, it is now the bailiff in Steinkjer that collects the taxes. Bergstranda is otherwise self-contained with water and firewood, and gets it's high voltage from the local electrico, NTE, ISDN from Telenor (the former state tele-co)and internetconnection from Dagbladet/Powertech and Tiscali. .
People have lived here from time immemorial, but the houses standing here today originate from the beginning of the century. This spot is blessed with a nice creek and a lovely beach, and lies facing south. It's also cursed with a crossing highway and the total absence of sun in the evenings. In the summertime there is excellent conditions for boat-life here, but in the winter the sea has a wicked tendency to become unreasonably hard...
